Yorkshire based animal-themed psych/folktronica songwriter duo Birds and Beasts are releasing a new single and animated video on 17th December.
Birds and Beasts' new single is inspired by the deer whose woodland home was divided by the iron curtain but it also mirrors a tragic family history. Anna from Birds and Beasts was born in East Germany; her father separated from his siblings in the West at ten years old and not reunited until he was in his 50s. The once heavily fortified border near Anna's hometown is now a haven for wildlife, but 30 years after the wall came down the descendants of the red deer still stick to either side of the former frontier and do not cross. This is the background that informs this very personal song about separation and hope.
Birds and Beasts are a band with a concept. Their songs tell stories from the animal kingdom using powerful emotions that humans can relate to. Songs that connect us to all the creatures who also call earth their home. With a natural instinct for pop melodies this Anglo/German duo translate their love for animals into a mix of harmony singing, acoustic-y folktronica, psychedelic guitar and synths.
