Carol Hodge, loves cats, Regina Spektor, Billy Bragg and garlic dough balls. Read on....

When did you first pick up an instrument and learn to play it?
I begged my parents for piano lessons at the age of 9 and the rest is history. Since then I've played in loads of bands, mostly of a punk and/or rock persuasion.
What have you been up to in this last year?
Having one long drawn out existential crisis and trying to articulate it through song. I've written and recorded an album The Crippling Space Between, which is currently at the pressing plant. Lots of collaborations, some livestreams, lots of practising.

How would you describe your music ?
Regina Spektor meets Billy Bragg. With seven fingers.
What do you love about creating ?
It's just about the only time I feel entirely mindful, and entirely present. Being caught up in the flow of writing a song is probably the best feeling there is. Apart from getting a massage. I'm having a massage today and I'm so excited about it!
What is important to you right now?
At this very moment, it's answering these questions so I can go and feed my cats. Stampy the ginger tom is perma-hungry and will yowl and fall over dramatically if he hasn't eaten for three hours. I'm very similar, to be fair.
What is your favourite song to play of your own music ?
It always changes. Currently, it's Best Thing In This Town, a song from the new album that I will be playing live tomorrow night!
What are you listening to now?
This week it's been Big Thief, HMLTD, Bob Vylan, Emily Breeze, Penfriend, Chris Catalyst, Black Country, New Road and Boss Caine. I try to listen to as much music as possible, and try to discover someone new every day.
What is your favourite dinner?
Right now, it's all the food, as I'm on restricted calories to try and get back in shape. I'm currently dreaming of garlic dough balls from The Parish in Huddersfield.

What did you miss the most during lockdowns?
Gigs. Performing, communing with a crowd, meeting new people. Having a sense of purpose. Getting giddy.
